Building An Experience with Danny Meyer

With more than 200 Shake Shack locations around the world and a suite of successful New York City restaurants, Danny Meyer, CEO of Union Square Hospitality Group, knows how to build the ultimate customer experience while building an all-star staff.

Meyer, a board member of No Kid Hungry since 1992, sat down with Citi's Global Consumer Chief Marketing Officer, Jennifer Breithaupt to explain what drives the perseverance, commitment, passion and relentless optimism that has produced renowned restaurants like Gramercy Tavern, Blue Smoke, The Modern and Maialino. 

The St. Louis native shared insight into what sets his businesses apart in one of the most competitive markets and industries in the world. “All organizations are truly trying to solve the same set of problems,” he explains, “which is: how do we make this a great place to work?” Danny says the secret ingredient that infuses every meal, table and interaction is a mindset and set of skills that he readily admits cannot be taught. Good service is part of that winning formula, but the special sauce is hospitality.
